Leituras de 2014 / 2014 Reads

2014 was a good reading year. I read a total of 27 books, which is pretty good for me, taking into account that I am a mother of two and I work full-time for half of the year and part-time the other half, when I also dedicate myself to a small vegetable garden and, on a more occasional basis, to helping my husband with his small business.

2014 foi um bom ano  em termos de leituras. Li 27 livros, e apesar de a quantidade não ser o mais importante, considero este número bastante bom, tendo em conta que sou mãe de duas crianças pequenas e trabalho a tempo inteiro durante metade do ano, sendo a outra metade ocupada com trabalho em regime parcial, dedicação à minha horta e, mais ocasionalmente, a ajudar o meu marido no seu trabalho.

I have built to have a better idea how my reading went regarding genre and writer's country of origin, which is what interests me more, as it reveals – or so I believe – how diversely I've been reading and helps me establish guidelines for future reading.

Out of curiosity, I also grouped countries into continents.

Se tiverem curiosidade em ver a minha lista de livros lidos em 2014, podem vê-la na minha página do Goodreads aqui. Neste post vou mostrar-vos uns gráficos (gosto imenso de gráficos...) que fiz para ter uma ideia melhor da forma como os livros que li este ano se distribuíram quanto a géneros literários e país de origem dos seus autores, uma vez que revelam - ou, pelo menos, eu assim acho - o grau de diversidade das minhas leituras.

Só por curiosidade, fiz um outro gráfico onde agrupei os países por continente.

My conclusion: I am quite happy with the number of different countries I covered (12 different countries is not bad taking into account I only read 27 books), but not so much with how the different continents are covered. I am reading mostly European authors, so next year, I would like to read more authors from Africa and Asia. As to genres, I think I covered a fair diversity, even though I find that I am shying away from science fiction and fantasy. While this is only natural because sci-fi and fantasy is definitely not one of my favourite genres, I have more than one time found amazing reads within this genre so once in a while I like to push myself into reading a sci-fi and/fantasy book. So this would be my second reading goal for the new year.

A minha conclusão: estou bastante satisfeita com o número de países abrangidos (12 países diferentes parece-me bastante, tendo em conta que só li 27 livros), mas não tanto com a sua distribuição por continente. Dou-me conta que tenho andado a ler maioritariamente autores europeus, e gostaria de ler mais escritores asiáticos e africanos no ano que agora começa. Quanto a géneros literários, acho que cobri uma variedade bastante aceitável, mas noto que não li nada de ficção científica/fantasia. Se isto é normal, por não se tratar de um dos meus géneros favoritos, por outro lado, já várias vezes me surpreendi ao ler livros muito, mas mesmo muito bons dentro deste género, e por isso gosto de, de vez em quando, obrigar-me a ler algum. Assim, este seria o meu segundo objectivo para este ano, em termos de leituras.

Mais alguém tem o hábito de estabelecer objectivos de leitura? Em caso afirmativo, e se não se importarem de contar, gostaria muito de os conhecer.
